Step 1. Open the Coinbase app on your phone or tablet

Step 2. Tap the menu . It’s the three horizontal lines at the bottom-right corner (or top-left, on some models) of the screen.

Step 3. Scroll down and tap Settings & Privacy. It’s near the bottom of the screen. This opens another set of menu options.

Step 4. Tap Security and Login. It’s in the “Security” section.

Tap Use two-factor authentication. It’s about halfway down the page.

Step 5. Select a security method. If you want to receive confirmation codes via SMS text message, tap Text Message (SMS). If you have an authentication app like Google Authenticator or Authy, tap Authentication App.

Step 6. Tap the blue Continue button.

Step 7. Set up your security method. The final steps will be different depending on the security method you chose:

If you are using SMS: Add your phone number and tap Continue. When you receive the 6-digit authentication code via text message, enter it into the box and tap Continue. Last, tap Done to confirm.

Step 1. Open the Coinbase app on your device.

Step 2. Select the three horizontal dots menu icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Step 3. Select “Settings” from the list of menu options.

Step 4. Under “Security,” select “Security and Login.”

Step 5. Next, select “Use two-factor authentication.”

Step 6. Under “Add a Backup Method,” select “Authentication App.” Coinbase will recommend a third-party authentication app if you don’t already have one installed on your device.

Step 7. If you already have a third-party app installed, use the QR code or copy and paste the code into your authentication app.

Step 8. Select “Continue” and a pop-up will say that Coinbase wants to open your already-installed app. Select “Open.”

Step 8. Enter the confirmation code in the text box and then select “Continue.”

Step 9. You should now be able to receive access codes from your third-party authentication app anytime you try to log into Coinbase from an unfamiliar account.
